OUR BELIEFS

At Heritage Baptist Church, we stand firmly on the Word of God. We believe in the unchanging truth of Scripture, the power of the Gospel to save, and the importance of living a life fully surrendered to Christ.

The Bible is our Final Authority

We believe the King James Bible is the inspired, infallible Word of God and our sole authority for faith and practice.

Salvation is by Grace through Faith

Salvation is a gift of God, not of works. We are saved by grace through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ alone.

Jesus Christ is Lord

We believe in the virgin birth, sinless life, substitutionary death, and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is the only way to God.

Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
—Hebrews 13:8

God

We believe in one true and living God, who exists in three co-equal and co-eternal persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. God the Father is the sovereign Creator and Sustainer of all things. God the Son, Jesus Christ, is fully God and fully man, born of a virgin, sinless, and the only Savior of mankind. God the Holy Spirit convicts, regenerates, indwells, empowers, and comforts the believer. Though distinct in person, each member of the Trinity works in perfect unity and harmony.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God, perfectly preserved in the King James Version for English-speaking people. It was written by holy men of God as they were moved by the Holy Spirit and is the final authority in all matters of faith and life. We do not believe the Bible contains the Word of God—it is the Word of God, from Genesis to Revelation. Its truths are timeless, its message is clear, and its application is essential for the believer’s growth and guidance. We reject any modern translation that alters, deletes, or corrupts the preserved Word of God.

The Church

We believe the local church is a visible, autonomous body of baptized believers, covenanted together to carry out the Great Commission.

Christ is the head of the church, and its only scriptural officers are pastors and deacons. The church exists to glorify God through worship, discipleship, fellowship, evangelism, and service. We observe two ordinances: baptism by immersion and the Lord’s Supper, both reserved for saved, obedient believers. We are an Independent Fundamental Baptist church, unaffiliated with any denominational control, and governed by the Bible alone.

Christian Living

We believe every believer is called to live a life that reflects the holiness and character of Christ. Christians should separate themselves from worldly philosophies, sinful practices, and doctrinal compromise. We uphold biblical standards in dress, speech, entertainment, and behavior as a testimony to a lost world. The believer is to walk in the Spirit, grow in grace, and pursue righteousness with sincerity. Our lives should glorify God, edify others, and point sinners to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.

OUR HISTORY

Heritage Baptist Church held its inaugural service on January 25, 2003, in a small storefront in Pearland, TX. Pastor Jeff Lockett, along with his wife Jackie and their four children—Jarred, Jacobi, Janiah, and Jordan—was commissioned by Crossroads Baptist Church in Virginia to plant a New Testament church in the greater Houston area. From that first service, God began to grow His church, adding foundational members like Bernadine Francois, Mrs. Lockett’s mother, and Mrs. Heidi Purcell. After over two years in Pearland, HBC relocated to Campbell Elementary in Sugar Land, where the church met for nearly three years. Despite the challenges of a non-traditional setting, God continued to bless and add families to the ministry. In 2007, the church was officially organized as an independent, autonomous Baptist church by Dr. Louis Baldwin and Crossroads Baptist Church. A year later, HBC moved to its current location at Great Oaks Baptist Church, where God has continued to strengthen the church both spiritually and numerically.

Heritage Baptist Church also places great importance on building strong, godly families. Our ministries equip young people to apply God’s Word in their daily lives. In 2015, the church launched Bridge Preparatory Academy to further its mission. God’s faithfulness through the years has proven that He is truly able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.

Meet Pastor Jeff Lockett

Jeff Lockett

Jeffrey W. Lockett, a native of Houston, accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at the age of nine while attending First John Baptist Church, and from that early age, God’s calling on his life was unmistakable.
